Це був Linkin Park, а пісня була "In The End", яка стала величезним хітом у всьому світі. Це було так круто, коли зачитували реп, але коли почався приспів, це було щось нереальне. Мені здається, що ви зовсім не намагаєтеся вдавати ніби вік вашої аудиторії старший. Ви робите музику, яка знаходить відгук у підлітків, як це було у нас з вами. Звичайно, у вас багато і дорослих шанувальників, але найвідданіші з них - це підлітки.
Й: Так, це було справді захоплююче і насправді навіть досить страшно цього літа, коли ми грали в Allas Sea Pool. Ми розпродали квитки на два шоу, одне з них було для людей старше 18-ти, а друге без вікових обмежень.

Це дійсно чудово, що повстання якого ми хотіли досягти з допомогою нашої музики зараз настільки популярно. І звісно, що шоу для “18+” також популярно. Цього літа вся країна говорила про нас і на це була причина, і я цілком усвідомлюю що ми є альтернативною групою. Ми не граємо поп-музику і співаємо англійською. Тому я знаю що ми не залишатимемося поширеною темою у всій країні на завжди. Але зараз ми є, і, звісно якщо ми продамо півмільйона примірників нашого альбому у США, як це зробив HIM(прим. одна з найпопулярніших фінських рок-груп), то звичайно ми станемо обговорюваною темою. Але ми знаємо що наші альбоми не продаються настільки добре. Р: Я думаю що це безкоштовно. Я був запрошений туди одного разу і якщо мені не зраджує пам’ять, то ми не надсилали рахунок. Чи ви заробили трохи грошей за цей рік рок-зірки?
Й: Гроші за авторські права з(https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teosto) приходять трохи пізніше, хахаха, але ми стали розумніші. А якщо чесно, то наші концертні виплати стали набагато більші, у десять разів. Але нам ще потрібно захопити світ. Багато людей цього не знають, але гастролюючи Європою чи США ми повинні спочатку заплатити за це самостійно. Вам потрібно орендувати автобус, який може коштувати до 30 тис. євро на місяць, а також ви повинні платити зарплатню своїй команді, тощо. Тому всі гроші які ми зараз отримуємо будуть вкладені в концерти за кордоном. Те, з чого ми живемо — це гроші з продажу авторських прав. Це не означає що саме зараз ми підемо купувати Porsche або ще щось інше. Ми дійсно розумні, бо інвестуємо в своє майбутнє.

Й: Так, я теж так думаю. Але я ніколи дуже не цікавився грошима. Я думаю, що якщо ви будете робити те що вам подобається і будете захоплені цим-це згодом окупиться.

Р: Залишилося жити ще два роки.

Моя інтуїція казала мені ”ще один рік, ще один рік” і потім почалася пандемія. Ми думали, що це кінець. Але потім, за кутом причаїлась ідея пісні «Dark side», а також сумнівне шоу для рок-гурту «UMK». Отже, коли ми вирішили прийняти участь – це означало або ми виграємо, або це буде остаточною крапкою для нас. Такий наш менталітет.

Але для початку давайте повернемось в ті роки, коли ви ще не знали, що це станеться. З усіма поганими моментами, незручними фургонами, тощо. Що ваші батьки думають про все це?
Й: У мене є хороша історія. Я навчався продакшину у Муніципальному Університеті Прикладних Наук, правда, не дуже регулярно. Тому, соціальні мережі були безпечними для мене. Я мав друзів, з якими міг спілкуватись, а також отримував стипендію. Й: Нам запропонували контракт з Sony в 2020. У мене з Йоонасом був фінський музичний проект. Ми писали пісні і я ніколи не говорив про це до сьогодні. Але цей проект зайшов вже занадто далеко. З нами почали працювали відомі продюсери, але проект несподівано завершився, коли Blind Channel вирішили прийняти участь в «UMK». Це було питання життя та смерті. Ми робили пісні фінською, поп-пісні з рок-вайбами. Зараз, коли я їх слухаю, то розумію, що ми уникнули невдачу. Й: Так, що у нас було... «Vuosisadan morkkis» (похмілля століття), потім була одна з назвою «Honeymoon» (медовий місяць). Я не можу згадати всіх, хаха, жахливо. Ще була «Maaninen pyromaani» (маніакальний піроманіяк). Загалом було три пісні.

Я теж слухав "In the End" і пройшов через те ж саме - грав концерти для чотирьох чоловік, всім було байдуже,але ми тяжко працювали зі своєю групою. Але наш прорив стався завдяки продажу самих себе! Наша група була талановитою, і наша початкова ідея полягала в тому, що ми все зробимо самі. Я пішов на вступний іспит в MAdetoja, не знаючи абсолютно нічого про теорію музики. І я дуже нервував, бо був так близько до того, щоб потрапити в MAdetoja, в Оулу. Я був близький до того, щоб виїхати з Оулунсало, це маленьке містечко в 10 км від Оулу. І ось за тиждень до початку занять хтось відмовився від місця в MAdetoja, і мене взяли. Це був абсолютно новий світ. Мої друзі в Оулунсало говорили: "О, чорт, він тепер крутий хлопець". Було багато інших людей, які грали на гітарі і слухали важкий рок, як і я, займалися музикою і мали гурти. У мене особисто була пара невеликих груп, ми грали металкор, і у нас був кавер-гурт Slipknot під назвою Släpknot. І, до речі, ми граємо на фестивалі Knotfest разом зі Slipknot.
Р: Як Blind Channel, я вважаю, а не як Släpknot?
Й: Так, ха-ха-ха! Але так, в старших класах я відчував стрес, тому що гурти змагалися один з одним. І я пам'ятаю, був гурт Abhorrent Ritual, в якому грав Йоонас. Через Йоонаса до групи приєдналися інші учасники його групи (Томмі і Оллі). Але ключовим моментом була зустріч з Ніко, нашим другим вокалістом. Ніко - піаніст з класичною освітою, і він все життя писав реп, так що у нього не було рок- чи метал-досвіду. Але коли він приєднався, все закрутилося. Якби ми працювали без нього, можливо, це була б просто ще одна альтернативна рок-група. Але коли Ніко приєднався до гурту, тексти, мелодії і гармонія в цілому вийшли на зовсім інший рівень. Я назавжди вдячний Йоонасу. Ми з ним як брати, тому що у нас день народження в один день, і ми створили гурт. Я дійсно буду завжди вдячний йому. У школі зі мною було досить важко ужитися - я і зараз такий - але тоді у мене були проблеми з самооцінкою. І я був трохи засранцем, тому я розумію, чому люди не хотіли приєднуватися до групи.

Коли почалась пандемія, у нас все ще була наша стара команда менеджменту. Ми думали про зміну колективу тоді, та про те, що нам потрібна більша команда. І коли ми вже були впевнені в тому, що найближчі пів року у нас не буде жодного концерту, ми вирішили розірвати стару угоду та почали пошуки нової команди. Ми знайшли людину, яка працювала з Вілле Вало (прим. вокаліст гурту HIM) та The Rasmus. Він дуже відомий як у Фінляндії, так і за її межами. Але найважливішою причиною було те, що вони розмовляють фінською мовою. Дуже важливо мати менеджмент-команду, носіїв мови. Ми уклали угоду з ними. Потім народилася пісня «Dark Side», в яку ми вклали всю злість та все розчарування. Після цього ми почули, що на UMK міг би потрапити рок-гурт і це було питанням життя або смерті. Ми довго про це думали і вирішили таки спробувати. "Підніміть свої середні пальці вгору" в прямому сенсі. Вперше в своєму житті я відчув, що у нас є можливість показати себе та те, з чого ми зроблені. Ми змогли вкласти все наше розчарування, гнів та розпач у цю шайбу - я зробив посилання на хокей, хаха. Р: Чи вважав ти тоді, що краще за всіх граєш на гітарі?

Я ніколи не хотів бути кращим в світі гітаристом, але я хотів, щоб моя група була найпопулярнішою і найкращою групою в світі. Це було головною метою.
Р: Ця позиція "ось і ми, виродки" мені знайома, у мене було так само. Але хто ці люди, яким ми хочемо довести свою правоту? Я сам ніколи в житті ні в кому не сумнівався, так чому хтось повинен був сумніватися в ТОБІ або під МЕНІ, коли ми росли? Чи отримав ти відповідь на це питання? Я переживав це досить часто. Наді мною знущалися, але іноді я і сам був задиракою. Я подав документи в середню школу MAdetoja (музичну) в Оулу і в середню школу Oulunsalo, яка була самим нудним варіантом. Я пішов на вступний іспит в MAdetoja, не знаючи абсолютно нічого про теорію музики. Й: Ммм, так, звичайно, мій характер досить складний. Навіть зараз мої колеги по групі знають, що я до біса складна людина. Але, звичайно, я хочу щиро вибачитися перед тими, кого я образив в минулому. Що зробило мене імпульсивним і не таким емпатичним, так це спогади з дитинства і знущання. Я був такий наляканий і такий злий. Це залишило величезні шрами. Зараз я набагато більш урівноважений, ніж 10 років тому, так що вам варто повірити в те, що люди можуть змінюватися. Звичайно, людина завжди залишається тією ж самою, але її образ мислення може змінитися. Проходячи труднощі на своєму шляху. Деякі люди кажуть про "elämän koulu" (школа життя), це таке жахливе слово, ха-ха, але багато людей вчаться через цей важкий шлях.
Р: Я такий радий, що ти знайшов цих людей, навіть якщо вони виявилися не такими цікавими, як ти сподівався, ха-ха. І я радий, що ви зіткнулися з труднощами, перш ніж сталося все хороше.
Й: Саме так. І ми також зіткнемося з труднощами в майбутньому. Найцікавіше, що люди думають, що це наче казка і далі все піде як по маслу. Але правда в тому, що нам потрібно виконати ще дуже багато роботи за кордоном. У січні ми відправимося в турне з Eskimo Callboy, і нам потрібно завоювати тисячі людей. Це ще не кінець. Я не походжаю з пляшками шампанського в руках і Rolex на зап'ясті. Я чудово розумію, що двері для нас зараз відкриті, але ми повинні наполегливо працювати.
Р: Ваші три переломні моменти не потребують оголошення. Це все про 2021, коли 8 років праці було нарешті винагороджено. З чого ти б хотів почати?
Й: Давай повернемося у 2020. Я маю бути вдячним пандемії тому, що я не зміг би давати зараз це інтерв'ю, якби не covid-19. Для цього було багато причин. Коли почалась пандемія, у нас все ще була наша стара команда менеджменту. Ми думали про зміну колективу тоді, та про те, що нам потрібна більша команда. І коли ми вже були впевнені в тому, що найближчі пів року у нас не буде жодного концерту, ми вирішили розірвати стару угоду та почали пошуки нової команди. Ми знайшли людину, яка працювала з Вілле Вало (прим. вокаліст гурту HIM) та The Rasmus. Він дуже відомий як у Фінляндії, так і за її межами. Але найважливішою причиною було те, що вони розмовляють фінською мовою. Дуже важливо мати менеджмент-команду, носіїв мови. Ми уклали угоду з ними. Потім народилася пісня «Dark Side», в яку ми вклали всю злість та все розчарування. Після цього ми почули, що на UMK міг би потрапити рок-гурт і це було питанням життя або смерті. Ми довго про це думали і вирішили таки спробувати. "Підніміть свої середні пальці вгору" в прямому сенсі. Вперше в своєму житті я відчув, що у нас є можливість показати себе та те, з чого ми зроблені. Ми змогли вкласти все наше розчарування, гнів та розпач у цю шайбу - я зробив посилання на хокей, хаха. Це було воно. Восени ми почали зйомки кліпу. Пам'ятаю, люди казали, що наша група дуже особлива на цьому конкурсі. Коли ми почали знімати кліп в Пасіла (прим. залізнодорожня станція), Гельсінки, я спав по дві години і приймав снодійні. Я був ніби в комі, відчував себе справді не в собі. Я був таким блідим і виглядав так, ніби я мертвий. Коли ми почали знімати, всі, хто був в студії, казав:"Це щось велике, щось особливе!" Це був жахливий день. Ми знімали приблизно 14 годин і після пішли в наш улюблений бар та замовили декілька літрів пива. Я був настільки мертвий але пам'ятаю, що думав про себе: "Це воно!" Я усвідомлював, що колись з нами це трапиться. Коли настав січень, все сталося. Багато людей казали: "Ви, чорт забирай, серйозно?" Коли вони побачили, що ми беремо участь в UMK, то казали, що ми все зіпсуємо. Але ми подумали, що нам абсолютно немає що втрачати. Коли «Dark Side» вийшла, вона потрапила в топ-10 у фінському чарті в Spotify та YouTube. Я знав, що це було саме те. Я був впевнений в цьому. Я дуже нервував через фінал UMK. Пам'ятаю, що Алексі та Йоонас говорили мені до фіналу, що я маю думати про тих людей, які буллили та зневажали мене. Думати про них. Я пішов до гардеробної, подивився на себе в дзеркало та розвів широко руки. Мій улюблений супергерой - Веном. Я відчув себе ним у той момент, з пофарбованими в чорний руками. Пам'ятаю, що я подумав про себе: «Я Веном, я вб'ю їх усіх». І це спрацювало. Це був такий сплеск емоцій. Після виступу я потрапив за лаштунки, впав на підлогу і почав плакати від щастя. І я знав...я знав, що це було воно.
Р: Хаха! Добре, це спрацювало. Як це було в Роттердамі?
Й: Навесні ми почули дещо про те, що Century Media (прим. незалежний лейб звукозапису) був зацікавлений в роботі з нами. Я дуже хвилювався. Це було те, заради чого ми так плідно працювали. Міжнародна угода, в якій ми потребували. Звичайно, ми були учасниками Євробачення, мали вплив на них і наша пісня була великим хітом. Коли ми прибули в Роттердам, я пам'ятаю, що прокинувся о 5 ранку і друг написав мені повідомлення. Він спитав, як я себе почуваю і я відповів: "Це так, бляха, жахливо, я не хочу туди йти.", він відписав: "я знаю, але все буде добре".
Ми поїхали в аеропорт, я дуже нервував. Я був такий, типу охриніти, на моїх плечах зараз вага всієї цієї клятої країни. Всі чекають, що ти виграєш. Ну, потрапляння в топ-10 - це перемога для Фінляндії, як ви знаєте. Ми знали, що повинні виступити добре. Коли ми приїхали в Роттердам, я відчував таке диявольське занепокоєння. Вперше я побачив людей у костюмах, коли ми приїхали в Роттердам і потрапили у VIP-зону очікування. І я пам'ятаю, що на першій репетиції у нас не було глядачів, але коли ми вперше виконали цю пісню на сцені з піротехнікою - пісню, яка привела нас сюди. Поїхали, блять. Тоді я зрозумів, що нам нема про що турбуватися. Через деякий час після цього ми підписали контракт, і тоді стало просто весело. Це було якось чарівно, я був в абсолютно іншому світі.
Р: Це було неначе в мильній бульбашці, вірно?
Й: Так, абсолютно. Дуже схоже.
Р: Як я вже говорив, я радий, що ви не виграли. Як виконавці, ви можете дати набагато більше, ніж просто як "група з Євробачення".
Й: Саме так, і тепер я розумію, що повинен говорити про свою бойову травмю. Немає кращого місця, щоб поговорити про це, ніж тут. Я не можу більше ходити на радіоінтерв'ю і говорити про Євробачення. Це неможливо. Цей подкаст став для мене ідеальною платформою, щоб сказати це.
Р: Так, я теж так думаю. У цьому подкасті ми говоримо про переломні моменти, які обрали гості. Але було б дивно, якби ви не вибрали Євробачення в якості одного з них.
Й: Так, цього не можна заперечувати.
Р: Але ти не зобов'язаний вічно носити на собі штамп Євробачення. Але що неминуче, так це те, що кількість прослуховувань майбутніх пісень не буде такою високою, як для "Dark Side". Але ти, очевидно та людина, яку дійсно цікавлять цифри. Я стежу за вами в соціальних мережах і дивлюся ваші історії в інстаграм, і там багато історій, де ви розповідаєте, скільки разів "Balboa" був переглянутий, скільки разів "Dark Side" був переглянутий і так далі. Як ти будеш почуватися - знаючи, що ти не отримаєш "ще один Dark Side" прямо зараз?
Й: Так, це реалізм. Але якщо ви згадаєте Metallica, вони завжди грають "Enter Sandman" в якості останньої пісні, і так було останні 30 років. Але я не думаю, що вони проти цього, тому що вони збирають повні арени. Тож якщо ми продамо тисячі квитків в Фінляндії і сотні квитків в Європі заради однієї відомої пісні, я зовсім не проти. Це в біса хороша пісня, в будь-якому випадку! Я знаю, що "Dark Side" надовго стане нашим "Enter Sandman", і я зовсім не проти.
Р: Іноді буває, що пісня навіть відоміша, ніж сама група. Є люди, які знають "Dark Side", але поняття не мають, хто такі Blind Channel. Це неминуче, і ти просто повинен прийняти це. І це здорово, що ви це зрозуміли.
Й: Так, я прийняв це. Ви повинні подумати про те, де б ви були без цієї пісні. Якщо згадати, де ми були до "Dark Side", то ми продали лише 200 квитків на концерт в Гельсінкі. Смію припустити, що навесні ми оголосимо новину про великий концерт у Гельсінкі, і за один день продамо як мінімум в десять разів більше квитків. "Balboa" доволі непогано прослуховувався, два мільйони разів за місяць. Це хороший темп. Зараз вона грає на радіо, а відео було трендом №1 на фінському Youtube досить довгий час. Так що було круто, що люди слухали її, вчили слова і підспівували, коли ми виконували її влітку. Для мене це найголовніше - людям подобається наша музика і концерти.
Р: Давайте повернемося до хейтерів, і тих, хто сумнівається, якщо можна так висловитися. Чи спілкувалися ви з людьми, які сумнівалися у вас в минулому? Що вони говорили?
Й: Зараз я повинен прочитати повідомлення, яке я отримав після фіналу UMK. Людина, з якою я навчався в школі, надіслала мені наступне: "Мені приємно бачити, як ти махаєш середнім пальцем по телевізору людям, які тебе ненавиділи. Я пам'ятаю, як в початковій школі над тобою знущалися через твій музичний смак. Я розумію тебе, тому що мій музичний смак не теж не був таким самим як у всіх інших. Я не знущався над тобою і не бив тебе, але і не захищав тебе. Пробач мене за це. Але тепер продовжуй в тому ж дусі, не зупиняйся після перемоги на Євробаченні! ". Ось таке повідомлення я отримав. У мене побігли мурашки по шкірі, і я подумав:" О чорт, ми дійсно зробили щось велике ".
Р: Напевно, було дуже складно відправити таке повідомлення. Якщо у когось вистачило сміливості надіслати таке повідомлення, значить, що сотні людей думають про це, але не говорять вголос.
